Homemade Italian Bread

Easy to make Homemade Italian Bread. Perfectly crusty and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Add 3 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt to bowl. Mix with fork.
  • Next pour in your warm water. Continue to mix with fork. Knead by adding 1/2 cup flour for about 2 minutes or until dough is slightly sticky. 
  • Cover bowl and let rise in warm space for 4 or more hours. The longer the better.
  • When done rising, place on floured surface and with a 1/2 cup of flour, knead until dough is smooth and not sticky anymore.
  • Spray dutch oven with non stick cooking spray or line oven with parchment paper. Place dough in dutch oven and let it rise in warm space for another 2 hours.
  • Uncover, brush with olive oil.
  • Preheat oven to 450 ℉
  • Place lid on dutch oven and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove lid and bake for another 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm and ENJOY!

Notes

TO BAKE ON SHEET PAN:
  1. Follow steps 1-4.
  2. Split into four pieces. Line sheet pan with parchment paper or silicon mat. Place dough on sheet pan. Allow to rise 2 hours in warm space.
  3. Brush with olive oil.
  4. Bake at 450 ℉ for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
